A small tree, with decorative narrow leaves. It is a vigorous grower, with highly flexible brances suitable for wattle fences. The most striking feature is the purple catkins in spring. Catkins change from purple to red, ending in a yellow hue. 

Slender rods produced annually which are often used for basket making. Also a good choice for hedging and screening. 

Thrives with modest to heavy watering, but will grow in a wide variety of soils once established.
