A large shrub with vigorous solid new growth. Produces straight, branch free rods. Thrives with modest to heavy watering, but will grow in a wide variety of soils once established.
If allowed to grow naturally, purpurea #187 will produce thicker, stronger wood for use in furniture making. If pruned annually; slim, straight canes 6 feet long suitable for basketry will be grown. Shape: Allow to grow to it's natural form, coppice, or pollard.
